Neighborhood Clean Up: Happening Today!

Our annual Spring Clean-up is happening today, Saturday, May 4, starting at 10am. We’ll meet at 410 Spencer Rd to hand out trash bags and to organize. The bagged, collected road-side litter can be left by the sign at 411 Spencer Rd for the city to pick up.

Please remember that, for safety reasons, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The ditches may have broken glass and other sharp objects (as well as ticks), so wear appropriate footwear.

Afterwards, starting at about noon, please join us for pizza, courtesy of Pudgies, and cold soft drinks at Amici House of Tompkins County Action at 701 Spencer Road. If you would like to bring something to share, that would be most welcome, also.

May Neighborhood Clean Up

Spencer Road Neighborhood Clean Up Saturday May 4th (rain date May 5th)

Please join your neighbors at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 4th for a big spring cleaning event along Spencer Road. We’ll meet on the 400 block (outside 410 Spencer Road) at 10:00, where the neighborhood association will provide some heavy duty trash bags and we’ll split off to gather up trash.

Everybody is welcome to join a follow-up pizza party at noon at the Amici House of Tompkins County Action at 701 Spencer Road. We’ll have a chance for some informal chatting at the Amici House.

If there is substantial weather (i.e., rain), we will instead meet at on Sunday, May 5 at same place and time.

June Meeting

Our next formal meeting will be on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00, likely at Stone Quarry Apartments again, where our primary order of business will be organizing some efforts to request some new traffic signage in our neighborhood.

Upcoming Meeting and Neighborhood Clean Up

April Neighborhood Meeting

Our next Spencer Road Neighborhood Association meeting will be Saturday, April 6th at 11am. This time we will be meeting in the community room of Stone Quarry Apartments, 400 Spencer Road. Please join us to meet our new city council representatives, Phoebe Brown and Kayla Matos. We’ll have coffee and some snacks, and time to get to know each other and to share our concerns about the Spencer Road community.

Parking is extremely limited at the apartments, so walk if you are able; otherwise, plan to park on the street. There is also limited seating in the community room, so bring a folding chair if you can. Those of us who live closest will bring some extras to share.

May Neighborhood Clean Up

Please join us on Saturday, May 4th at 10am (rain date: Sunday, May 5th at 10am) to pick up trash along our neighborhood streets and sidewalks.

Meet up with the neighborhood group on the 400 block at 10am. Trash bags will be available for use. Filled bags can be dropped off in the 400 block at the sign posted. Please collect only road-side debris; don’t include your household trash or garbage.

Come join your neighbors as we work to make this a better community for us all!

Fall Neighborhood Clean Up

This weekend we are having a neighborhood clean-up. Rather than gathering as a group, we are asking that folks work on their own or with friends to pick up roadside trash dumped around their property. Contractor bags will be available on the front porch of 410 Spencer Road. There will also loaner reflective vests and work gloves available. Please sign them out on the sheet on the table and sign them back in when you return them.

Please only include road-side trash, not household garbage.

The collected trash will be picked up by the city on Monday, November 13 from 411 Spencer Road, across the street from where you will be returning any borrowed equipment. Look for the sign by the street side wall to know where to leave your collected trash.

Another Successful Neighborhood Clean-Up

Ithaca Police Department members assisting with clean up

Many thanks to all those who helped with the clean-up of our neighborhood last weekend. Because of our work, our community looks better than it has since before the pandemic started. As things return to normal, we will again plan on having our clean-up events twice a year in the hope that we can maintain the progress we made today.

Special thanks are due to the members of the Ithaca Police Department who helped out last Saturday, many after working the night shift. Your efforts in gathering and hauling away two years’ work of debris were much appreciated!

Thanks also to our Common Council representatives, George McGonigal and Cynthia Brock. Your trash collection skills and continuing support of our neighborhood mean a lot.

For those who were unable to participate, you will have another chance in the Fall. We will hope to see you then.
