Spring Clean Up

The annual Spencer Road Spring Clean Up will be Saturday, May 3rd. We will meet at 10am in front of 410 Spencer Rd to hand out trash bags and a limited number of loaner work gloves and reflective vests. The drop off point for collected materials will be in front of 411 Spencer Road. It will be marked with a sign.

As always, please only include roadside trash in your collection (no household garbage), and please accompany any children under 12.

After the clean up, at approximately noon, please join your neighbors for a pizza party in the community room at Amici House, 701 Spencer Road (next to Tompkins Community Action building). We will have pizza, soft drinks, and cider available. Bring something to share if you would like.

Please join us to meet your neighbors and to help keep our community clean, safe, and welcoming.

(The rain date is Sunday, May 4th, at the same time.)

Meeting Saturday, March 15th

Our next SRNA meeting is this Saturday, the 15th, from 1 to 3 in the Community Room at Tompkins Community Action (TCA). Please note the change in time. We are trying an afternoon meeting to see if that’s a better time for folks with Saturday morning commitments. Please let us know if this time is better–or worse–for you, and we’ll take that into consideration when we schedule the next meeting.

Please remember that the entrance to the Community Room is in the rear of the building off of the parking lot. Take the driveway immediately on the right as you enter the property, and continue all the way around the building. There will be a sign on the door.

We’ll have coffee and snacks, as always, and time to talk about neighborhood concerns and to plan for the up-coming spring clean-up.

Hope to see you on Saturday, the 15th, at 1.

Upcoming Meetings and SouthWorks Tour

Hello neighbors,

The Spencer Road Neighborhood Association will be holding its March meeting on 3/15 from 1-3pm at Tompkins Community Action. There we will be discussing grant funding and organizing our spring neighborhood clean up.

In addition:

You are invited to join the Spencer Road Neighborhood Association for two upcoming opportunities to learn more about the SouthWorks project. These are opportunities specifically geared towards us who live downhill from this project, as we may have specific concerns about traffic, stormwater runoff, etc.

There will be a meeting Monday 3/3 from 6-8pm, and a tour Saturday 3/8 tour from 1-3pm. Please let your neighbors/friends who live in the Titus Flats and Spencer Rd areas know. Details below.

The SouthWorks project is the planned adaptive reuse of 820,000SF of existing factory space (formerly the Morse Chain/Emerson Power Transmission factory) on a 95-acre site which straddles the City and Town of Ithaca. This mixed-use project will include both commercial and residential spaces, renovations & new construction to create a mixed-use neighborhood integrated into Ithaca’s South Hill.

During the Monday presentation, Rob Lewis, Development Project Manager, and Sarah Barden, Community Outreach & Leasing Coordinator, will provide a history and status update on the project, with a focus on how SouthWorks will relate to the downhill neighborhoods of Spencer Road and Titus Flats. Featured topics will include stormwater management, traffic studies, housing plan, Gateway Trail activation, and 2025 occupancy & art opportunities. Please bring your questions, curiosity, and ideas! The presentation will Monday 3/3 from 6-8pm at Tompkins Community Action (601 Spencer Rd). Parking is available. Use the side entrance (there will be a sign on the door).

During the Saturday tour (3/8, 1-3pm), Rob & Sarah will provide a brief overview of the project, then lead attendees on a walking tour of the main complex of existing factory buildings, with ample opportunity for discussion & questions. This tour typically involves several flights of stairs and 1-2 miles of walking. Attendees should use the entrance across from South Hill Elementary School at 620 South Aurora StreetPlease plan to be there by 1pm. The tour will leave the meeting point at 1:15pm; it will not be possible to catch up to the tour after the group has left. If any attendees have mobility limitations, please contact Sarah in advance so we can adapt the route. All attendees must wear closed-toed shoes and sign a waiver.

Contact information for questions about either the presentation or the tour can be sent to Sarah at sbarden@shiftcapital.us! Please RSVP so you can be notified directly in case of any changes to the event dates/details.

Upcoming Meeting

Come meet your neighbors this Saturday, January 11th at 11 AM in the community room of Tompkins Community Action (at the Buttermilk Falls end of the street) to share concerns and coffee (or juice) and snacks.

Since the Department of Public Works does not have public meetings at the moment, we will talk about what else we can do to raise our concerns about traffic and the need for improved signage. If there are other issues you would like to share, this is a good time to bring those to wider attention.

As always, please remember that the entrance to the community room is in the rear of the building. Take the driveway immediately on the right after you enter the property, then turn left into the parking lot. There will be a sign on the door.

Fall Neighborhood Clean Up

Our autumn street clean-up will take place a week from today, Saturday, October 5, starting at 10 AM.

Spencer Road Neighborhood Clean Up Oct 5th

Contractor trash bags  will be available at 410 Spencer Road along with a limited number of reflective vests and work gloves. Please return any borrowed equipment when you are done.

Filled bags can be left at the sign near the light pole at 411 Spencer Road. Please include only trash from the side of the road (no household garbage).

If it is raining, we will try again at the same time on Sunday, October 6th.

We hope you will join us as we work together to keep our neighborhood a clean, safe, and welcoming place.

June Neighborhood Meeting

Our next neighborhood meeting will on Saturday, June 15th at 11am in the community room of Tompkins Community Action. The entrance to the community room is in the back off the rear parking lot. Take the driveway immediately on the right after you enter from Spencer Road, then turn left once you reach the rear of the building.

As always, we’ll have coffee and some snacks, and we’ll share our ideas and concerns. In particular, we are wondering about having a neighborhood picnic at Lower Buttermilk Park sometime in August, and we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Neighborhood Clean Up: Happening Today!

Our annual Spring Clean-up is happening today, Saturday, May 4, starting at 10am. We’ll meet at 410 Spencer Rd to hand out trash bags and to organize. The bagged, collected road-side litter can be left by the sign at 411 Spencer Rd for the city to pick up.

Please remember that, for safety reasons, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The ditches may have broken glass and other sharp objects (as well as ticks), so wear appropriate footwear.

Afterwards, starting at about noon, please join us for pizza, courtesy of Pudgies, and cold soft drinks at Amici House of Tompkins County Action at 701 Spencer Road. If you would like to bring something to share, that would be most welcome, also.
